Summer And Winter Rio Olympics.

The Olympic Games are considered to be the world's foremost sports competition with more than 200 nations participating. The Olympic Games are held every four years, with the Summer and Winter Games alternating by occurring every four years but two years apart.  But why are the olympics important?

With only a few days to go until the opening ceremony of the Olympics and the importance of the event, the athletes get ready to showcase what they have been practising for the last 4 years.It would be another 1,500 years before the Games would rise again, largely thanks to the efforts of Baron Pierre de Coubertin of France. Baron dedicated the promotion to physical education, the young baron became inspired by the idea of creating a modern Olympic Games after visiting the ancient Olympic site. In November 1892, Coubertin proposed the idea of reviving the Olympics as an international athletic competition held every four years. Two years later, he got the approval he needed to found the International Olympic Committee, which would become the governing body of the modern Olympic Games.

The Olympics originally started as a series of competitions between representatives from cities in Ancient Greece. The events were mainly athletic, but also included combat and chariot racing. The olympic games are the leading international sporting event featuring summer and winter sports competition in which athletes from all over the world come to compete in a variety of sports. The games bring together 14 nations and 241 athletes to compete in 43 events.

Every two years the Olympics and its media exposure provides unknown athletes with the chance to attain national and sometimes international fame. The Games also constitute an opportunity for the host city and country to showcase themselves to the world. Winning an event was of great value and recognition as the winners were admired by the Greeks on a national level. The winners also increased fame through the writing of poems.
