Technology Term 3 Using Rice As A Main Ingredient.

Rice has been feeding us for over 5000 years. It has been found in medieval Chinese walls where they were added for strength and stability. Rice is one of the main foods in meals. But why is rice so important?

It has been estimated that half the world's population subsists fully or partially on rice. Ninety percent of the world crop is grown and consumed in Asia. Rice is central to the lives of billions of people around the world. Jamie Oliver says that Jollof rice is more of a concept than a recipe, because it’s found in various forms all over West Africa. He also says that “you should use the best ingredients you can afford, make sure you use long grain rice so it doesn’t go soggy, and remember that the secret to great Jollof rice is investing in the flavours of the sauce.

Rice is a staple in any kitchen, and with so many different types, it lends itself to a limitless number of recipes. Before you add the same type of rice to every recipe you prepare, however, think twice. Substituting one type of rice for another can really alter the result of a recipe. Each type of rice has its own taste, texture, and unique properties that work well with different cooking applications. Rice can be used in many different meals from all around the world. It also saves the lives of people who have no food and also fills you very fast.

Rice is the staple food for 2.5 billion people and grown and consumed mainly in Asia. There are many different types with limitless number of rice recipes.

This term we have been learning to use rice as a main ingredient in meals. We will be looking at creating recipes using rice for athletes competing at the olympic games.
